After watching this run, you’ll wonder why they didn’t remove it sooner. It has everything everybody loves about Amiga/TurboGrafX games. It’s got simple controls, massive sprites, great music, one hit deaths and now it comes with “Better Gameplay”. Despite this, it’s a very competent puzzle platformer and an amazing speedrun, as it greatly expands the movement options of the first game.
Fusion featured a similarly lengthy open-world to explore, letting players scour and uncover secrets and ways forward at their own pace. The team at Nintendo R&D1 refined the combat from Super Metroid and introduced numerous new power-ups and play soccer games mechanics in the process. It may be blasphemous to say, but Metroid Fusion is not just one of the best games on GBA; it’s the best 2D Metroid ever made. The GBA certainly isn’t shortchanged in the RPG department, but few hold a candle to this wonderfully witty adventure. While the outrageously funny story will hold your attention, it’s the finely crafted combat mechanics that make AlphaDream’s adventure so much fun to play. The flow of battle will be instantly familiar to anyone who has experienced Mario’s earlier RPGs, but fights are cleverly enhanced by the inclusion of Luigi.
